I'm a self-taught digital artist and aspiring mangaka from Germany who mainly draws in an anime- and manga-inspired art style.

  • Background Lore

    Aiden grew up as a son of a wealthy family in a safe-sheltered environment in the affluent part of the city.

    From a very young age, he was gifted with an extraordinary intellect and interest in anything technology-related specifically. Given the good financial situation of the family, he was also able to get an excellent education and pursue a career in this field. He graduated with honors with a degree in 'engineering and augmentation technology' from one of the most renowned universities in the country at the age of 18. He was one of the youngest students in over a decade. Just a year later he also got his master's degree.

    At the age of 20 he started his own tech company for human augmentations with a starting capital provided by his parents. Due to the quality of the augmentations, the company was soon considered to provide the "gold standard for human augmentations" and competed with international players in the market.

    After three successful years, Aiden was blackmailed into committing a crime that resulted in him losing both his company and his brother, who was killed in front of Aiden's eyes by the blackmailers. Wanted by law enforcement, Aiden was forced to flee to the outskirts of the city where the slums - "The Sink" - lay. With no possessions other than the clothes he was wearing, he was greeted with disdain and resentment due to the rich being frowned upon by the people of The Sink.

    Almost starved and beaten to death he was eventually saved by a mercenary who would soon take him in and become his mentor.

    Aiden took up the profession as well to make a living and gain the trust of the people of The Sink. He swore revenge on the group responsible for his brother's death and his own downfall and has been tracing their steps since.

    Right now he lives alone with his stray cat "Pixel" which he saved from the streets. He avoids social contact as much as possible and only has a select few people he trusts.

Kaeko - 楓子 (かえこ)

  • Background Lore

    Kaeko is a rare black fox who grew old enough to become a kitsune and transform into a human.

    She was caught by blackmarket traders and quickly sold off for a heafty sum of money to a wealthy family who owned a gambling den. They held her captive over two generations because of the rarity of her fur color and treated her like an expendable object to showcase their wealth. She was frequently presented to wealthy patrons at the casino and offered as a price in gambles. Due to the owner's cheating however he never lost in a gamble though and instead raked in the cash. Whenever she didn't do what the family wanted, she was beaten back into obedience with a whip. Because of this harsh treatment her back is littered with healed whip scars.

    She was freed thanks to a Kitsune Rōnin named Reiji who "won her" in a gamble against the owner of the gambling den.

    He escorted her out of the establishment and to his friend Akito, a medically knowledgable but outwardly reserved blue oni, where she was able to physically recover from most of the maltreatment.

    After gaining some of her strength back she asked Reiji to train her in sword-fighting which he agreed on. She, too, lives as a Rōnin by his side since.

REIJI

Reiji - 伶士 (れいじ)
Kitsune • Rōnin • he/him • 🎂 February 12 • 180 years old (physically ~mid-late twenties)Setting

  • Background Lore

    Reiji used to be a samurai for an influential clan. Still quite young, carefree and loyal to a fault he found himself being framed for the murder of his close friend and the patriarch of the clan one day.

    The remaining members of the clan tried to force him to commit seppuku to rectify tainting his and the clan’s honor. Reiji, shocked about the betrayal, refused and decided to flee instead. In the fight that broke out as a consequence, he was gravely wounded around the neck and barely managed to escape with this life.

    Close to bleeding out and delirious Reiji was found by a blue Oni named Akito who carried him back to his home where he treated his wounds.

    After recovering from his grievous injury Reiji began striding the path of a Rōnin, leaving his former self and life fully behind him. Akito remains one of Reiji’s closest friends to this day.

    Reiji’s power is *premonition*, which allows him to see a few seconds of the immediate future. This not only makes him a strong swordsman - it’s also extremely useful for gambling. Hence he finds himself drawn to gambling dens and tends to visit each one he finds - that is, until he ends up banned for the suspicion of fraud because of his overproportionate win ratio.

    One day he found a gambling den where he spotted a fellow kitsune at. He frequently saw her being presented like a prized trophy to wealthy patrons by the owner of the establishment, before she was beaten and whipped back into obedience behind closed doors right after.

    The owner, too, eventually suspected that Reiji may be cheating, but instead of kicking him out and sending him on his way, like everyone else usually does, he saw it as a challenge to outsmart Reiji by using cheats himself.

    The owner handed the dealer his loaded dice before overconfidently challenging Reiji to a game of Chō-Han with the intent of cleaning Reiji out entirely. In turn, the sly fox won round after round which made the owner become increasingly more furious. After switching out the dice one last time he went all in and placed the casino as his bet, losing it in turn after Reiji unsurprisingly won yet again.

    In order to prevent losing his property the owner immediately called upon his guards and ordered them to kill Reiji, which ended with the owner cowering in a corner, crying and begging for his life, while drenched in the blood of his men.

    Reiji retorted that he should’ve tried talking to him first before sending his men - then he would’ve gotten to know that he wouldn’t have wanted the casino in the first place. Instead, he informed the owner that he'd be taking the kitsune that was being held captive here with him, before he left without another word, with her in tow.
